You're listening to the unstoppable mind podcast. And this episode is called the secret to hypnotizing. And it's probably not what you think. So stay tuned. Hello, Unstopables. I'm your host, Mary Lee Rodriguez. And welcome to the unstoppable mind podcast. And today we are going to talk about the secret to hypnotizing. And I wish this were a live interactive class, because I would ask you, because I'm curious what you think the secret is. So you won't be surprised when I mentioned this, or explain this. But a big part of hypnotizing and having it be a successful session is based on trust, and rapport. Now, people don't necessarily understand this, because if you watch somebody hypnotizing and doing like street hypnosis, you don't understand the elements that are involved. What you do understand is that somebody's been hypnotized, and now they're forgetting something, or they're doing something they wouldn't normally do, or whatever it is. But what I want you to know is that it really is about trust and rapport. And in order for our clients to follow our instructions, because when somebody is being hypnotized, it is because they are complying with our instructions. And what I mean by that is that, in the beginning, before I even do a hypnosis session, I ask, are you ready to be hypnotized? And they'll tell me yes. And then what I'll say is, okay, we'll go ahead and get comfortable. Go ahead and close your eyes, and move your hips and your shoulders around. So I'm getting compliance. And the reason why I am getting compliance is because someone trusts me. And I don't take that lightly. Like, this is a serious business that I'm in. And I'm always working on, on and for the behalf of our clients best and highest good. And so I develop that trust and rapport, right from the get go. And it really does make sense, because would you want your hypnotist to be someone you didn't trust? I mean, would you really comply with any of their suggestions? Probably not, you would walk away if it were somebody coming up to you on the streets. And if you were doing hypnosis, one to one with somebody, you probably would just close your eyes, but not be able to, you know, you wouldn't do anything else. And you certainly wouldn't be relaxed. Because if you don't trust someone, you are not going to comply with them. And when I mean comply, I'm really talking about suggesting, because during a hypnosis session, I'm always suggesting to my client, what is possible for them. And that's really, that's really how I frame it. And that's really the experience that they go through. And so when I'm training people how to be badass hypnotist, and if you've been trained by me, you know you are a badass hypnotist is that that's the first thing I remind hypnotist is that they truly are changing the world. And when someone graduates from my program, they really do know how to help clients. They know how to walk away going, I've got the abilities and the skills to be able to be successful with hypnosis. And that really, truly is my goal. Now, does that mean that they're fantastic right out of the gate? No. It comes with practice. And and so back to rapport and trust one of the so when I'm training my hypnotists to to really hit monetize effectively, one of the first things I remind them is, is that yes, they are badass. And that creates this confidence and I'm not going to go into all of the details about how confidence is created. But it really begins to create this this inner resource of confidence. And then I talked to the hypnotist about developing trust and rapport because without trusting Report, we will not be able to work effectively with our clients the way that they deserve. And hypnotic report really is a relationship between the hypnotist and the client. And man, is it powerful, because this relationship creates that trust and safety. So I always tell the hypnotists that I'm training that rapport starts at first contact. That means that whenever somebody reaches out to us, whether it's on Facebook, or Instagram, or email, that is when the report begins. And I always strive to thank people for reaching out to me, regardless of what it is, because I think it's so important that they made the effort. And I really feel like people can feel that. And so I want everyone to know that rapport really is created at first, at first contact. And the whole reason why hypnotherapy really is effective is because our clients feel safe, and they feel like they can trust us. So people will then ask me, Well, how do we establish rapport, and I'm going to talk to you about that. And it's more than just what you think. Now I know that if you've been in sales, or if you've had Hypnosis Training in the past that there's some obvious ones like mirror mirroring. But I'm going to talk about some other things first, you know, being on time, like that is a sign of respect. And it's a sign, it's what it says is that, hey, I value your time. So I am always on time. I mean, I can't say that I've never been late, but I really strive to be on time. And I do respect my clients time. So that's one of the ways that I develop rapport. I also for those of you who've never seen my office, I have a beautiful backdrop, I have a beautiful huge butterfly that stands out that in my office is always clean and presentable. Because what your background looks like, matters. I know that's a really like funny way to say it, but it's true. And even if you don't have fancy a fancy background, then you just want it to be clean. You don't want clutter everywhere. You just want it to be clean. And then yes, there is mirroring. And mirroring means that you're mirroring somebody's what they're doing, and their body language. And of course, a lot, all my sessions now are on Zoom, which Thank you zoom, you've given me access to the whole world, I am going to do like a map and do thumbtacks and every town and every country I've been in so far, because I think it's really fun that I get access to the whole world. So mirroring on zoom to the best of your ability. And, and I'm always leading. So and I'm pacing, which means that I'm also following my clients, but I like to have fun sometimes. And sometimes I will put my head in my hand and I'll watch to see if the if the person you know, not always my clients will do that as well. So that's leading and then pacing is when I'm following them when somebody else is leading. And so it's fun to practice rapport with family, with friends. And in fact, I'm going to invite you to do that, because I think it's important that you see when all of a sudden you can look at like two people that are standing in front of each other having a conversation and they look the same, their arms are crossed, they're looking in the same way. They're nodding their head, they're in total rapport. So that's one way, using your tone is another way. So just making sure that I'm matching the speed at which my client is speaking. So if they're a little more quiet, and I'm like hey, I'm so happy you're here. I'm so excited to change your life. Are you excited because I'm so excited. That's terrifying. There's no reporter there. So matching the speed in the tone in which people are speaking. And I'm the authority and I teach this to my hypnotists as well. They are the authority and and so being the authority and being confident and really watching how people are presenting themselves and mirroring that to the best of your abilities. And then also active listening really is a huge part of this. So So I'm listening to what my clients are saying. And I'm taking a lot of notes because I want to be able to speak my client's language. And so if they say that they're upset, and that their mom makes them so angry, that's exactly what I repeat back. I don't repeat back. Oh, man, it's so sucks that your mom's pissed, you're pissed off or you she's pissed off, because you know, you guys just don't get along. And that's not at all what the client said. So it's really important to be able to use the client's words and language and to be able to speak to them in their language to the best of your abilities. And then rapport also is created by setting expectations. So on Zoom, you know, most of my sessions are done via laptop. Now, I do have some clients that I that I will see. And I can tell that they're on their phones. And that's okay, it doesn't matter to me whether somebody's on their laptop or their phone. But what matters is the notifications. So that can be very distracting for the client, or the potential person that you're trying to make rapport with. If they're constantly being distracted by by notifications. So that's the same thing for me as well, or for the hypnotist I train, I make sure that they know that the most important thing is the client that's in front of them, and to not be checking their phone and to turn off their notifications so that they can be 100% Present. So really rapport. That is the secret to hypnotizing, it creates trust, it creates safety. It isn't about how deep you take your client, I mean, that's created based on rapport. So it all starts with rapport. It doesn't start with your depth of hypnosis, or whatever is happening to you. In hypnosis, it is about the relationship that you have with your hypnotist. That my friends, is the secret to hypnotizing and I wanted to share that because I get asked this question quite a bit. And it truly isn't the most amazing script that you could possibly read or the most amazing session you could possibly do with your client. It is about rapport before this session. That is what is going to make the session so successful. So there you go. Unstopables hope you enjoyed this.
